About Connecticut FCCLA

2009-2010 STATE OFFICERS

State President

Hi. My name is Katherine Larson and I am a Junior at Trumbull High School.  I enjoy playing soccer and running both indoor and outdoor track for my school. Some of my other hobbies include skiing, playing tennis and doing gymnastics, as well as reading and listening to music constantly. Of course, I love to hang out with my friends- just like any other high school student. Both this year and last year, I was elected by my class to be one of six student council representatives for our grade.

I entered FCCLA as a 6th grade student at Thurgood Marshall Middle and have continued through now-, which will be my 6th year. I have also been on the state executive council for five years now with previous positions being Vice President of Community Service and Vice President of STAR Events last year. This year I have earned the position of State President for the second time- as I also held this position my freshman year. One of my goals for this year is to successfully plan and run two memorable conferences that all of the members enjoy.  I also hope to stay organized through my chapter and state FCCLA, by keeping the officer team focused and dedicated to improving this awesome organization.

Treasurer

Hi, my name is Will Kaseta.  I’m 18 years old, and I’m a senior at Southington  High School.  I’ve been in FCCLA for the past 3 years, where I have filled the positions of Secretary and Vice President of Community Service for the Southington Chapter.  I joined FCCLA in hopes that I would make new friends and more importantly, have fun.  I am also part of another very active youth group, and I hope to share ideas between the two groups.  My hobbies include running cross country and track, playing video games, listening to music, and cooking and baking.  Currently my favorite subject is math, and as for the future, I hope to pursue a career in pharmacy.  This year I hope to build confidence in my public speaking.

Secretary

Hello everyone.  I am Sarah Littlefield, and I am proud to be a member of the 2009-2010 Connecticut Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Executive Council.  I am a junior attending Fairfield Ludlowe High School.  Some of my favorite hobbies include skiing, running, and photography.  I love to spend my time with my family and friends enjoying activities such as boating, playing cards, and chilling.

This is my sixth year in FCCLA and my forth year being on the State Executive Council. This year I hope to take CT FCCLA to new heights from its membership to our community outreach project to our Spring Conference.  I am looking forward to a great year and I cannot wait to see the potential of CT FCCLA bloom into a beautiful flower.

Vice President of Community Service

Hi.  My name is Natalie Forino and I am a 17 year old senior at Wolcott High School.  I am an aspiring culinary student and some day hope to open my own restaurant. How I learned about FCCLA is through my cooking teacher Mr. Tutalo.  I am very excited to begin learning and gaining valuable experience from FCCLA.  One of my goals this year in FCCLA is to get the chapter re-started in my high school and have 75 or more members involved.

What I like to do in my spare time is spend time with my friends, family, and boyfriend. The summer is my favorite time of year and I try to go to the beach and enjoy the weather as much as I can before it gets cold in the winter. And I would love to live in a big city when I grow older. I plan two community service events for my chapter: the Thanksgiving Day luncheon for the senior citizens and also to help 2 needy seniors attend their prom.

Vice President of Membership

Hi my name is Eileen McCarthy, I’m 17 years old and a senior at Faifield Warde High school. I’ve been a member of FCCLA for 3 years and President of my school chapter. I learned about FCCLA through my Fashion class and have enjoyed the all the experiences that I’ve had with FCCLA. I’m an active member of my youth group and a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, reading, listening to music, and being active. I have been able to compete and receive gold in the Recycle and Redesign for FCCLA. FCCLA has enabled be to enhance my leadership skills and meet new people, and has been a positive experience.

Vice President of National Programs

Hi, my name is Juliana Foster and I am a senior at Pomperaug High School.  All my life, I have been a very outgoing and hard working individual.  I play soccer, basketball, and lacrosse for my high school.  I also enjoy playing tennis in the summer, which is my favorite time of year.  I absolutely love spending time with my friends and family.  When I’m not studying or practicing with one of my teams, I sometimes spend my weekends helping out my local parish.  I joined FCCLA my freshman year because Mrs. Garafola, my chapter advisor, is my homeroom teacher.  Right away I mentioned that I was sad that I was not given Culinary Arts as my elective, and she immediately introduced me to FCCLA.

At first, I wasn’t very knowledgeable about FCCLA and its purpose, but after being the President of my chapter, becoming a state officer, and attending the 2009 National Leadership Conference, I have learned so much more.  I am extremely happy to be a part of this program and I am excited for this upcoming year.  I look forward to the great leadership opportunities I know I will experience with the SEC.  I would like to help both my chapter and state achieve their goals in any way I can, especially by promoting the organization and recruiting new members.  My goal is to become a more confident public speaker throughout the year, so by the end of my experience I will no longer have to deal with being nervous.  FCCLA is truly great for helping students with skills they need in their future so they can reach their highest potential.

Vice President of Star Events

My name is Bryony Cannings but most people call me Bry.  I'm 16 years old and a senior at Pomperaug High school.  I moved from Britain a few years ago and I'm loving being in CT. The Boy Scouts of America is my other passion other than FCCLA.  I combine skills from each organization into my everyday life.  At PHS I work with Mrs Garofola in our Hungry Panther cafe, where our FCCLA chapter works to provide healthy but yummy food.

My goal for this year for FCCLA is to promote the organization within the community and help FCCLA reach it's fullest. I am new to being a state officer and wish I had done this before so I could spend longer with the council but am glad I did at least get the one year.

Vice President of Star Events

Hi.  My name is Tom Valus and I live in Stratford. I am 13 years old and in the 9th  grade at Bunnell high school in Stratford.  This will be my second year as a state officer in FCCLA.   I hope to learn skills to help my chapter, my community, and help to build a better world.  FCCLA prepares us for success.

There are many other activities that I am also involved in.  I am currently an altar server at my church and have been for over five years. I like to play basketball, baseball and Frisbee. I’m involved in boy scouts and am currently a life scout. I love to cook and hang out with my friends. I have two dogs- a black pug named Harley and a carin terrier named Cali.  I’m in the Bunnell high school marching band.  I’ve been quilting for seven years and really enjoy it.  I‘ve participated in four quilt shows and have won several awards.
